Board Member Biographies Barbara Prosser Kerr (1925-2012) Writer, lecturer,
inventor, consultant. Founder, designer and director of the Kerr-Cole
Sustainable Living Center. Founding board member of Solar
Cookers International (SCI). Retired emergency room social worker.
Former registered nurse. RN, Capitol City School of Nursing, Washington,
DC, 1947 (Cum Laude). BA, Univ. of Chicago, 1951. MSW, Arizona State
Univ., 1971. Discovered that one can cook in a box made of cardboard,
aluminum foil and clear plastic. Similar designs are now widely used in
developing countries, based on this work. Developed the 7-Panel
Backpacker cooker from which evolved the CooKit design, which SCI now
distributes in refugee camps and remote areas of the world. Wrote the
textbook “The Expanding World of Solar Box Cookers” in 1991. In
collaboration with Dr. Paul Funk,
designed, developed and patented (1985, now expired) the
Thru-The-Wall-Oven (Solar Wall Oven) concept. Maria Donaghy works in the area of senior care. Monty Cunningham. Founder of the Acu-Ki system of Accupressure pain relief and author of several books on the subject. Barbara Hockabout and Clark Hockabout operate Lodestar Gardens, growing chemical free vegetables and herbs, raising goats and fowl, working toward self-sufficiency, off grid with goal of becoming independent of fossil fuels. Sustainability courses. Registered WWOOFer host. Diana Marshall, daughter of Barbara Kerr, taught for many years at the Delphi Academy of Boston. Don Marshall is a business consultant.
